Pictureal – Online Video Site
And here is Pictureal, a San Francisco based startup with unique video service with its brilliant video technology. I think its only fair not to compare regular video sharing community sites’ (like YouTube, jumpcut) technology platform with Pictureal as they differ in their core objective and functionality, still I would like to draw few comparisons here with them, as you all know about those sites and might be ignorant about Pictureal.
On Pictureal website, you will clearly know that, this is not another video site, where you can see millions of video clips uploaded by a million people. It is basically a polished video service, where users can upload video (or send tapes) and then can create music videos (shorts), make movies staring themselves and share it to friends and families, (video service like ofoto /snapfish?)
Services:
1. You can send tapes or upload videos (see the pricing here)
2. Once, the video is processed by Pictureal, your entire videos are archived on the servers, so that you can access them when ever or from wherever you want to.
3. You can customize professional looking music videos/short movies, create movies. I’m not biased saying this, but these templates are as good as HBO-TV broadcast quality graphics.
4. Get them on DVD, mobile, iPod or share with friends and families online.
Technology:
1. Pictureal video technology / processing systems are way ahead of what we see in other regular video sharing sites. For example, Pictureal video engine can recognize faces in video, recognize speech, extract all metadata available on video and tag it and update the database. (Like Riya does on photos) So with a little human input, you can search the content by people or by event or date. How cool is that?
2. Contextualization Engine takes out the unwanted/poor visible shots and categorizes your video into episodes. (based on metadata) We all know how painful to work on hours of video to cut out the unwanted shots.
3. Video engine is designed such that it can process all famous formats and hi-res videos in larger scale. (Targeting DV/HDV home video tapes)
4. Pictureal primarily uses Microsoft streaming technology and in some ways regular Adobe Flash.
User Interface:
User Interface is combo of all offerings when you login. From there you can access your memories, you can create a DVD movie, or you can make music videos.
